Sometimes it is to get the courage to ask people questions to get to know them. But as I keep trying, it is getting easier to talk to people. I found in talking to them that we each have similar experiences. I learned that some of us had hobbies.

SECTION C: READING COMPREHENSION10 MARKS

Read the following text and answer the questions that follow. Use your own words as far as possible.

Every Cameroonian desires to see an emerging nation. So, all of us have rights and obligations towards whatever happens in our educational milieu because the repercussions will go beyond us and our generation. It is no longer a secret to anyone in this country that in many of our educational institutions, there are teachers who have found themselves in education by accident because they are looking for means to survive. We know of students who are not interested in studies but who graduate with good results because they know how to navigate their way around some teachers. They offer in exchange of marks either money, gifts or their bodies for female students. There have been flagrant cases of students and teachers who promote copy work and all kinds of examination malpractices.

We are equally aware of parents who bribe to get their children pass examinations, get them admitted in schools or enter into prestigious and renowned professional schools which should be reserved only for the best. There is a lot that we all know and either ignore or have no time to handle.

But, if our future, the future of this nation means anything to us, then now is the time for any stakeholder in education in this country to make a serious examination of conscience. If not we will be gradually getting to a point where our best brains will leave this fatherland so as to excel in more enabling countries. This is the time for real patriots to be honest and to attend to the issues of education without any sentiments; merits and excellence must be encouraged.
